As a signal of the IMO's continued commitment to the Cooperative Mechanism, the IMO and the three littoral States signed a Joint Technical Arrangement(JTA) at the 2nd Cooperation Forum held in Singapore in 2009. The IMO Malacca and Singapore Straits Trust Fund has been established by the IMO aimed at providing, within IMO's cooperation with the three littoral States, every assistance possible in attracting sponsors for the projects identified by the littoral States at the IMO-sponsored 2006 Kuala Lumpur Meeting or any future projects to be identified mutually by the IMO and the three littoral States.
To date the IMO Straits Fund have received contributions of the following :-
1. Contributions received in year 2008 :-
a. Greece – US$ 1.0 million
2. Contributions received in year 2009 :-
a. The People’s Republic of China - USD 100,000.00; and
b. Germany - USD 50,000.00.
3. Contributions received in year 2010 :
a. Norway – USD 50,000.00;
b. Germany – USD 38,193.00; and
c. European Union (EU) – Euro 315,000.00.
The current amount in the IMO Straits Trust Fund stands now at USD 1,238,193.00 and Euro 315,000.00.
